Electric Stim

“I heard there were different types of electric stimulation that can help recovery?”

There’s all sorts of electrical stimulation that have been shown in various studies to be effective at helping patients recover from injury or surgery.  Again, these tools aren’t “magic bullets” to make all your troubles go away but that can be a real support to reducing pain, preventing swelling from worsening and in some cases helpful at reducing swelling, and improving muscle contraction ability.

We have numerous types available depending on the goal.  Simple TENS is what most patients have heard of before.  That’s an fairly “old school” style of stim that is very superficial in nature.  You can even buy units on the internet for $20-$50 now that produce those currents, but they often have very limited uses and too many times patients “accomodate” to the electrical current provided (much like roses in a room that you no longer notice after 15 minutes).
